چکیده

Finite projective (lattice) geometries defined over rings instead of fields have recently been recognized to be of great importance for quantum information theory. We believe that there is much more potential hidden in these geometries to be unleashed for physics. There exist specific rings over which the projective spaces feature two principally distinct kinds of basic constituents (points and/or higher-rank linear subspaces), intricately interwoven with each other — unimodular and non-unimodular. We conjecture that these two projective “degrees of freedom” can rudimentary be associated with spatial and temporal dimensions of physics, respectively. Our hypothesis is illustrated on the projective line over the smallest ring of ternions. Both the fundamental difference and intricate connection between time and space are demonstrated, and even the ring geometrical germs of the observed macroscopic dimensionality (3+1) of space-time and the arrow of time are outlined. Some other conceptual implications of this speculative model (like a hierarchical structure of physical systems) are also mentioned. MSC Codes: 51C05, 51Exx, 81P05, 83-xx

Vectors, Cyclic Submodules and Projective Spaces Linked with Ternions

Given a ring of ternions R, i. e., a ring isomorphic to that of upper triangular 2×2 matrices with entries from an arbitrary commutative field F , a complete classification is performed of the vectors from the free left R-module R, n ≥ 1, and of the cyclic submodules generated by these vectors. The vectors fall into 5 + |F | and the submodules into 6 distinct orbits under the action of the gene...

Unimodular Elements and Projective Modules

We are mainly concerned with the completablity of unimodular rows to an invertible matrix. We first relate this to stable range of the ring. Further, we consider rows generating an idempotent of the ring to obtain completability under special conditions. We try to obtain analogues of important theorems regarding unimodular rows in the case of these “idempotent rows”. By ring, we shall always me...

Improved stability for SK1 and WMSd of a non-singular affine algebra

In [MS, Theorem 1], M. P. Murthy–R. G. Swan have shown that a stably free projective module over a two-dimensional affine variety A over an algebraically closed field k is free. (The example of the tangent bundle over the real two sphere shows that the condition that the base field is algebraically closed is necessary.) They showed that every unimodular vector (a, b, c) ∈ Um3(A) could be transf...

Space-Time Equations for Non-Unimodular Mappings

Abstract. The class of systems of uniform recurrence equations (UREs) is closed under unimodular transformations. As a result, every systolic array described by a unimodular mapping can be specified by a system of space-time UREs, in which the time and space coordinates are made explicit. As non-unimodular mappings are frequently used in systolic designs, this paper presents a method that deriv...
